Group Classifications

The retirement plan classifies members into groups based on their occupation, position or duties. It is possible for a member to hold positions throughout his or her career that are classified in more than one group. Dedham Retirement System members are classified as follows.
Group 1
Officials and general employees including clerical, administrative and technical workers, laborers, mechanics and all others not otherwise classified.
Group 2
Officials and general employees including clerical, administrative and technical workers, laborers, mechanics and all others not otherwise classified.
Group 4
Public safety employees, such as police officers, firefighters.

A member’s Group Classification and membership date will determine the age factor that is used when calculating a member’s retirement allowance. For an estimate of the benefit percentage at which members will retire based on their age and years of service, refer to the Group Charts listed below.
